India and Singapore Sign Agreement on Semiconductor Partnership

India and Singapore have signed multiple agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in semiconductors, healthcare, and digital economies, elevating their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Singapore, emphasized the importance of collaboration for regional peace, stability, and prosperity, while describing Singapore as an “inspiration” for India’s development.

Semiconductor Partnership MoU

The newly signed MoU focuses on creating a robust semiconductor ecosystem, supporting India’s growing industry and opening opportunities for Singaporean companies in the Indian market.

Digital Cooperation MoU

This agreement aims to boost interoperability between the two nations’ digital economies. Areas of cooperation include data protection, cyber-security, and digital public infrastructure, building on initiatives like the linkage of their real-time digital payment systems.

Healthcare and Medical Research MoU

Under this MoU, India and Singapore will work together on pandemic preparedness, disease surveillance, and the prevention of communicable diseases.

Education and Skill Development MoU

Both countries will cooperate in vocational and technical training, further strengthening their partnership in skill development.

Strategic and Historical Ties

Modi highlighted Singapore’s role in India’s Act East policy, noting significant milestones over the past decade, including a three-fold increase in investments and satellite launches. He also acknowledged the deep cultural and historical ties, particularly the contributions of Subhash Chandra Bose and the Indian-origin community in Singapore.
