India Rediscovered on the 100th birth anniversary of Prof Lal

Government of India released an e-book “Prof B.B. Lal -India Rediscovered” on 2 May on the occasion of the centenary year of great archaeologist Professor B. B. Lal. The book is a tribute from the Ministry of Culture for his immense contribution to the field of archaeology.

The book is a centenary special edition that has been prepared by the Ministry of culture in collaboration with Prof B B Lal Centenary Celebration Committee.

Prof Lal was born on 2 May 1921 in village Baidora, District Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The living legend rediscovered civilizational India buried under the colonial past.

In a career spanning over 50 years, Prof Lal made an immense contribution to the field of archaeology. He was trained by Sir Mortimer Wheeler at Taxila in 1944.

Prof. Lal excavated several important landmark sites including Hastinapura (Uttar Pradesh), Sisupalgarh (Orissa), Purana Qila (Delhi), Kalibangan (Rajasthan).  From 1975-76 onwards, he investigated sites like Ayodhya, Bharadvaja Ashrama, Sringaverapura, Nandigrama, and Chitrakoota under the Archaeology of Ramayana Sites.
