Anita Anand, a Canadian politician of Indian origin, was appointed as the defence minister of the country on October 26, 2021, in Justin Trudeau’s Cabinet following a reshuffle, reported PTI.
She is only the second women to be appointed as Canada’s National Defence Minister, after Kim Campbell in the 1990s. The 54-year-old Anita Anand replaces long-time Indian-origin Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan. Anand is the second woman to serve as Canada’s defence minister, reported The Guardian. She previously held the portfolio of the procurement minister.
