Indian Railways to get CORAS

The first deployment of the Railway’s commando unit CORAS will be in the Naxal-hit areas of Chhattisgarh, RPF DG Arun Kumar. He said a new state-of-the-art facility will be built in Haryana’s Jagadhari city to train CORAS commandos.

Speaking at the launch of the Commandos for Railway Safety, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said he had approved the setting up of the institute and instructed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to provide them with training of international standards.

“CORAS’ first deployment will be in naxal-hit Chattisgarh. They will also be deployed in areas where railway has major ongoing projects which need security like northeastern States and Jammu and Kashmir,” the director general of the RPF said.

Aim:

The launch of CORAS is aimed at providing security to the Railway passengers. It has been launched to meet the challenges to Railway security. It also ensures to develop world level capabilities of specialized responder for any situation pertaining to damage, disturbance, disruption of train operations, attack/hostage/hijack, disaster situations in railway areas.

Commando for Railway Security (CORAS):

CORAS will be a special Railway Unit and a separate Commando Unit of RPF. It is a result of detailed policy formulation. Railway Protection Force is always involved in protecting Railway passengers and Railway property in far and inaccessible threat prone areas.

CORAS team, a protection force, will be provided with the best, most modern equipment and world class training. A new state of the art commando training centre will be established in Jagadhri, Haryana. This special unit will be trained to meet any challenging situation.
