India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio improved to 103 in 2017-19
The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in India showed significant improvement at 103 for the period 2017-19, according to the official data released by the Registrar General of India on March 14, 2022.
India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has dropped by 10 points, which is a notable achievement. From 113 in 2016-18 to 103 in 2017-19, this ratio has decreased, witnessing an 8.8 % decline. MMR has gradually decreased in the country, falling from 130 in 2014-2016 to 122 in 2015-17, 113 in 2016-18, and 103 in 2017-19. MMR is defined as the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births during a given period.
