On 7 April, UNESCO commemorates the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly (link is external)in 2003. This day marks the genocide against members of the Tutsi.
The main objective of this day is to make people aware of genocides and the consequences of the crime. In 2003, the United Nations General Assembly designated this day. Over 1 million Tutsi were systematically murdered within just over 100 days.
