IPS officer Aparna Kumar scales highest peak in North America
Aparna Kumar, Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer, who became the first woman Indian Police Service (IPS) DIG and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officer to successfully conquer the south pole, has now scaled the highest peak in North America, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) said.
Aparna Kumar scaled the Mount Denali in North America which has a summit elevation of 20,310 feet above sea level. The IPS officer has also completed her 7th summit in the “7 Summits” challenge. She has, hence, become the first civil servant and IPS officer to achieve the feat.
The IPS officer has scaled the summit in her third attempt.
She had also recently completed her south pole expedition. After completing the south pole expedition, Aparna Kumar headed to the north pole to start the 111-mile journey from April 4 from Norway’s Oslo.
Aparna Kumar had reached the north pole on January 13.
In January, Aparna successfully reached the south pole after covering 111 kilometres of walking on the snow. She also carried equipment weighing 35 Kilograms along with her. She has already scaled the top six mountain peaks of the six continents of the globe.
She reached the south pole on January 13, where she unfurled the National and ITBP flags.
Aparna is a 2002 batch UP Cadre IPS officer, who has been posted at the Northern Frontier Headquarters of ITBP in Dehradun. The ITBP has been credited with 211 successful mountaineering expeditions across the globe, making a record.

first woman IPS officer to reach the South Pole on January 13 after walking 111
kilometres with 35 kilograms of equipment on her back.
In 2016, she became the first officer of the All India Services to successfully
scale Antarctica’s highest peak Mount Vinson Massif followed by Mount Manaslu
in Nepal in 2017.
Mount Denali:
Mount Denali is considered the third most prominent and third most isolated
peak on Earth, after Mount Everest and Aconcagua. Mount Everest is the highest
peak in the world, Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the Southern and
Western Hemispheres. It is also the tallest peak outside of Asia.

4) Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania

Canadian mountaineer Patrick Morrow was
the first man to climb the Seven Summits in 1986.
Indian Army officer Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal is
the first Indian to summit the seven highest peaks spread across the seven
continents. He is a recipient of India’s highest adventure award, Tenzing
Norgay National Adventure Award Jamwal is also the first officer from the
Indian Army to achieve this feat.
