Jharkhand got 1st rank for implementing Smart City Mission schemes
Jharkhand has clinched the first position in the recent ranking released by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India

The ranking is based on the progress of the implementation of the Smart City Mission’s schemes running in different 100 cities of the Country’s 36 states and union territories.
National Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal and retrofitting program by the Government of India with the mission to develop smart cities across the country, making them citizen friendly and sustainable.
The Union Ministry of Urban Development is responsible for implementing the mission in collaboration with the state governments of the respective cities.
The mission initially included 100 cities, with the deadline for completion of the projects set between 2019 and 2023. The effective combined completion of all projects is now at 11%.
India is expected to have an urban population of about 810 million by 2050 from the current level of 410 million.
At present, the total metropolitan area in India is estimated at 2.2 lakh square km. Doubling of population would amount to 74 trillion sq mt of construction to provide shelters, offices, factories, shopping, hospitality, and other social amenities.
