Jnanappana Prize for 2023 went to poet V Madhusoodanan Nair

Jnanappana Award – 2023: The Guruvayur Devaswom’s Jnanappana Award – 2023 has been chosen for poet V. Madhusoodanan Nair. The award carries ₹50,001, a gold locket of Guruvayurappan and a citation. It will be presented to the poet by Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu at a cultural meet to be held at Melpathur Auditorium, Guruvayur. Madhusoodanan was selected for the prestigious award in consideration of his overall contributions to the literary world. The award consists of a Rs 50,001 cash prize, 10 gram gold locket with an image of Sree Guruvayoorappan, a citation, and a memento.

About the V. Madhusoodanan Nair

V. Madhusoodanan Nair is an Indian poet and critic of Malayalam literature, who is credited with contributions in popularizing poetry through recitation. He is most known for Naranathu Bhranthan, the poem in Malayalam literature with the most printings, as well as for his music recordings that include readings of both his own poetry and poetry by other well-known poets. Kerala Sahitya Akademi honoured him with their annual award for poetry in 1993. He is also a recipient many other honours including Sahitya Akademi Award, Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram, Padmaprabha Literary Award, Kunju Pillai Award, R. G. Mangalom Award, Souparnikatheeram Prathibhapuraskaram and Janmashtami Puraskaram.
