‘Kaiser-i-Hind’ declared as Arunachal Pradesh’s State Butterfly
State Cabinet of Arunachal Pradesh, headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, approved “Kaiser-i-Hind” as a state butterfly on November 13, 2021.
The Kaiser-i-Hind butterfly is scientifically known as Teinopalpus imperialis. The Kaiser-i-Hind literally means Emperor of India. This species of butterfly has a 90-120 mm wingspan.
They are found in six Indian States along the Eastern Himalayas at elevations from 6,000-10,000 feet in well-wooded terrain. These are Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Assam, Sikkim, and Manipur.
Apart from this, the butterfly is also found in Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and southern China.
