Land Degradation and Conservation Measures:

Resources And Development

Land degradation is a serious issue that worries every country; it has the potential to cause enormous harm and damage to ecosystems and the environment.

Land degradation can be seen as a sequence of changes that reduces the land’s ability permanently to support human communities and wildlife.

Land degradation implies a decrease in the overall vitality of lands and their biota, due to man-induced processes and/or natural events.

In recent years, industrial effluents as waste have become a major source of land and water pollution in many parts of the country.

Some of the ways through which we can solve the problems of land degradation are:

  1. Afforestation and proper management of grazing.
  2. Planting of shelter belts of plants.
  3. Stabilisation of sand dunes by growing thorny bushes.
  4. Proper management of waste lands.
  5. Control of mining activities.
  6. Proper discharge and disposal of industrial effluents and wastes after treatment.
