MAEER’s MIT College of Railway Engineering and Research, Barshi
About College
Historically, the real progress and development of any nation has been dependent upon good infrastructure, particularly an excellent transportation system with an adequate network of roads as well as railways.
Nearly after 69 years of independence of our country, India is passing through a stage where it aspires to be in the category of developed nations and to compete with them globally. Essentially, the basic infrastructure required, comprises of a good network of roads as well as railway lines. During the last few years, the Government of India has taken up the construction of roads in rural and urban areas, as well as the networking of cities and towns under various schemes like Golden Quadrilateral, North-South and East-West Corridors, JNNURM, and Prime Ministers’ National Rural Roads Scheme etc.
Today, urban development, especially, in big cities, is so fast that there is a demand for much better transportation system, specially, in form of Metros and Bullet trains. A number of cities are on the brink of having the Metros and Bullet trains. Obviously, this will require qualified and trained Railway Engineers. It is worth noting that world over, there have been a number of Engineering Colleges conducting courses in Railway Engineering Education and Training, and in China alone more than 80 courses in Railway Engineering and allied Departments are being run.
Railway Engineering, as such, is a multi-faceted discipline, dealing with the design, construction, production and operation of all types of a railway system. It encompasses a wide range of engineering disciplines, including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Production Engineering. It covers many other sub-disciplines of engineering and management. There is an urgent need for having a specialized group of Railway Engineers capable of dealing with the unique problems associated with railways. As the time passes, the railway systems engineering is going to emerge as a vibrant field of engineering and there is going to be a great demand for having competent, qualified and specialized railway engineering graduates, post graduates and researchers.
With the advent of new technologies and the developments that are taking place all over the world, there is a dire necessity of having institutions in India, fully devoted to this particular discipline of Railway Engineering, so that well qualified, competent manpower is available to take up the challenges including speed, vibration, track renewal, maintenance, signaling, structural analysis and design, coupled with efficient and effective management of the railway system in its totality. So far, there was no such dedicated Railway Engineering College in India conducting Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Railway Engineering.
Realizing this urgent and critical need of the hour, Prof (Dr.) Vishwanath D. Karad, the Founder Executive President of the prestigious MAEER’s MIT Pune had a dream of establishing a dedicated Railway Engineering College at Barshi, Dist – Solapur. As a result of his pioneering efforts and persuasion, the AICTE, New Delhi has given approval for starting the first ever MIT College of Railway Engineering and Research at Barshi, Dist. Solapur from the academic year 2017-18.
This new institute has a sprawling campus of 8 acres with an impressive building designed with excellent architecture. There are spacious clean and airy class rooms, a spacious library with rich collection of books, journals and other reading materials coupled with ERP software. The laboratories are most modern and well equipped. The faculty and staff are well qualified, trained, experienced and committed. It is proposed to establish strong linkages with the industry, other research institutions and organizations. There is also a plan to have strong collaborative arrangements and tie-ups with the leading Institutions and Universities abroad engaged in this field.
MIT College of Railway Engineering and Research, Barshi, Dist. Solapur will be devoted to produce excellent qualified, competent and dedicated expert Railway Engineers.
