Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov wins 2021 Nobel Peace Prize
Filipino-American journalist Journalists Maria Ressa and Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov have won the Nobel Peace Prize for their fights to defend freedom of expression in the Philippines and Russia.
The duo has been honored “for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace”.
The Nobel committee called the pair “representatives of all journalists who stand up for this ideal”.
Maria Angelita Ressa is a Filipino-American journalist and author, the co-founder and CEO of Rappler, a Philippine online news website and Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov is a Russian journalist and editor-in-chief of the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta.
