Meghalaya’s root bridges on tentative list of World’s Heritage Sites

Meghalaya’s living root bridges get listed on the tentative list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.

Living root bridges are the type of simple suspension bridge formed by the method of tree shaping from living plant roots across a stream or river.

These bridges are locally known as Jingkieng Jri. ‘Ficus Elastica’ tree is used to make living bridges in Cherrapunji, India. The roots form the bridge in a span of 10-15 years.
