Microsoft Will Retire Internet Explorer 11 in June 2022

Microsoft recently announced that the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10.

Legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications will continue to work with Microsoft Edge’s built-in Internet Explorer mode.

The Internet Explorer (IE) made its debut in 1995 as part of Windows 95 operating system. Thomas Reardon is known for launching the Internet Explorer browser in 1995.

The debut of Firefox in 2004 and Google Chrome in 2008, along with the rise of mobile operating systems such as Android and iOS started to make the Internet Explorer less relevant in the world dominated by smartphones.

Microsoft Edge is a cross-platform web browser developed by Microsoft. It was first released for Windows 10 and Xbox One in 2015, then for Android and iOS in 2017, for macOS in 2019, and as a preview for Linux in October 2020.
