National Rail and Transportation Institute upgraded as Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya
The National Rail and Transport Institute (NRTI) in Vadodara, which is a deemed university, will be upgraded as a central university and named “Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya”, informed Anurag Thakur, union minister of information and broadcasting. The cabinet has approved the setting up of the Gati Shakti University. Once realised, this will be the second central university in Gujarat after the Central University of Gujarat (CUG). According to the minister, the capacity of the Gati Shakti University will be increased and more courses will be introduced. The Union Cabinet gave its approval to introduce a Bill in Parliament, namely, the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2022 to amend the Central Universities Act, 2009 for setting up of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV).
The amendment would help in converting the National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), a Deemed-to-be university into Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, a Central University. The NRTI offers BSc in transportation technology, BBA in transportation management courses, and MSc in railway system engineering and integration.

The scope of the university will extend beyond the Railways to cover the entire transport sector to support its ambitious growth and modernisation.
