This date is also significant because it falls on the birthday of Kasturba Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi’s wife and a prominent freedom fighter and social reformer. Since then, National Safe Motherhood Day has been commemorated with a variety of awareness campaigns and events held throughout the country. Each year, the WRAI organizes a range of programs and awareness initiatives centered around a particular theme. The theme for this year’s National Safe Motherhood Day has not yet been announced.
