NBRI established Advanced Virology Lab for testing COVID-19

The National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Lucknow, has established an advanced virology laboratory for COVID-19 testing. The facility has been developed based on the guidelines of the ICMR, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said a release from the Union government.

The Advanced Virology Lab is a Bio Safety Level- 3 facility and has a suction facility that can suck any aerosol and pass it through filters.

It can filter virus or bacteria to make it a safe COVID-19 testing facility. It reduces the possibilities of infections at the culture facilities.

The PLACID trial is a Phase II, open-label, randomised controlled trial to assess the safety and efficacy of convalescent plasma to limit the complications caused by COVID-19 in moderate cases.

It has been registered with the Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI) and has received approval from the COVID-19 National Ethics Committee (CONEC).
