Occupational structure is the term applied to the distribution of the population according to different types of occupation.
Occupational structure, together with social structure and cultural structure, form the fundamental fabric of the society. Occupations are classified as:
- Primary: Primary activities include agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, fishing, mining and quarrying, etc.
- Secondary: Secondary activities include manufacturing industry, building and construction work, etc.
- Tertiary: Tertiary activities include transport, communicatlons, commerce, administration and other services.
