PM Modi inaugurates new ITU Area Office and Innovation Center in New Delhi: On March 22, India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, inaugurated the country’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area Office and Innovation Centre. At an event held in New Delhi, he also launched the Bharat 6G Vision Document, as well as the 6G Research and Development Test Bed and the Call Before U dig App.

What is International Telecommunication Union (ITU):

The ITU, a United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technologies, is headquartered in Geneva and operates a vast network of regional, field, and area offices.

India and International Telecommunication Union (ITU):

India signed a Host Country Agreement with ITU in March 2022 for establishing an area office, which is located on the second floor of the Centre for Development of Telematics building in Mehrauli, New Delhi.

Significance of this Development:

The fully funded office will serve India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Afghanistan, and Iran, with the goal of improving regional coordination and promoting mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
