Power resources are of two types:
- Conventional Resources: are those that have been in common use for a long time. Firewood and fossil fuels are two main conventional energy sources.
- Non-conventional Resources: of energy are renewable. Solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, etc. are non-conventional sources of energy.
Conventional power resources includes fossil fuels like coal, petroleum products, natural gas and other forms of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. Non-conventional resources include hydropower projects, wind energy, solar energy, tidal power etc.
The demand for power resources is increasing at a fast pace. To meet the growing demand for electricity, several countries are exploring the possibility of non-conventional resources to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels.
