Raphael Varane announced his retirement from international football: Raphael Varane, a defender for France who spent ten years playing for Les Bleus and won the World Cup in 2018 and finished as runner-up four years later, has announced his retirement from international football. At the under-18, under-20, and under-21 levels, Varane represented France. He was part of France’s FIFA World Cup squad in 2014, when he was nominated for the Best Young Player award, in 2018, when he played every minute of every game as France went on to win the competition, and in 2022, when France finished as runners-up. After 93 caps and 5 goals, he declared his retirement from international football in 2023.
