Renowned National Award-Winning Actress Uttara Baokar: Uttara Baokar, a well-known actor and theatre artist, died at the age of 79. Baokar studied acting at the National School of Drama (NSD) and has portrayed a variety of parts including Padmavati in ‘Mukyhamantri,’ Mena in ‘Mena Gurjari,’ Desdemona in Shakespeare’s ‘Othello,’ and mother in playwright Girish Karnad’s ‘Tughlaq,’ among others.

In 1984, she won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, India’s National Academy for Acting. She also appeared in Marathi films like Doghi (1995) with Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Renuka Daftardar, Uttarayan (2005), Shevri (2006) and Restaurant (2006), with Sonali Kulkarni. She came in the limelight following her role in Govind Nihlani’s movie Tamas. The veteran actress has appeared in popular TV shows like Udaan, Antaral, X Zone, Rishtey Kora Kaagaz, Nazarana, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Kashmakash Zindagi Ki and Jabb Love Hua.
