The Sahitya Akademi Award 2022:
The Sahitya Akademi Award: Every year, the federal government has given out an award for the outstanding literary work. As a result, on December 22, the central government revealed the winners of the Sahitya Akademi Award for literature. Writer M. Rajendran from Tamil Nadu has received this award for his novel ‘Kala Pani’. The awardee will be presented with a cash prize of one lakh rupees and a copper Shield. This ‘Kala Pani’ novel is a historical novel based on the war of Kalayarkovil or Kalayarkool.

Sahitya Akademi, announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages:
- 07 books of poetry,
- 06 of novel,
- 02 of short stories,
- 03 Play/Dramas,
- 02 Literary Criticism,
- one each of Autobiographical Essays,
- Collection of Articles and Literary History have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2022.
- Award in Bengali language will be announced on a later date.
Under the direction of Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar, President, Sahitya Akademi, the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi authorised the Awards, which were suggested by prominent Jury members in 23 Indian languages.
The books were selected on the basis of recommendations made by a Jury of three members in the concerned languages in accordance with the procedure laid down for the purpose. According to the procedure, the Executive Board declared the Awards on the basis of unanimous selections made by the Jurors or selection made on the basis of majority vote. The Awards relate to books first published during the five years immediately preceding the year of Award (i.e. between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2020).
The Award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and an amount of Rs. 1,00,000/- towards cash content each will be presented to the awardees at the award.

Sahitya Akademi:
- Sahitya Akademi is India’s National Academy of Letters.
- The Government of India established the Sahitya Akademi on 12 March 1954.
- Sahitya Akademi was set up by the Government but functions as an autonomous organisation.
- In accordance with the Societies Registration Act of 1860, it was registered as a society on January 7, 1956.
- Sahitya Akademi has recognised English and Rajasthani apart from the 22 languages enumerated in the Indian Constitution.
General Rules and Eligibility Criteria for the Sahitya Akademi Award:
- The book must be a remarkable contribution to the language and literature to which it belongs.
- The book or literary work must have been originally published in one of the Sahitya Akademi’s recognised languages during the five years immediately prior to the award year.
- The literary work should be written by an Indian and published in India.
- The book or literary work should not be a work of translation or an anthology of multiple authors
- When two or more books are equally good, the total literary contribution and standing of the authors of the books will be considered to decide the award.
