Tata Trusts names Siddharth Sharma CEO: The philanthropic arm of the Tata group and largest shareholder in the group holding company, Tata Trusts named Siddharth Sharma, as its CEO and Aparna Uppaluri, as chief operating officer. The new CEO and COO’s appointments will take effect on April 1st, 2023.
Sharma, a former civil servant, will succeed N Srinath, who stepped down as the CEO of Tata Trusts last year following his retirement. Tata Trusts will replace the Ford Foundation as Uppaluri’s new organisation. The 48-year-old is currently the Ford Foundation’s programme director for India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The COO post has been created by Tata Trusts to accommodate her.

The appointment assumes significance as Tata Trusts is not only the largest stakeholder in Tata Sons, but also one of the oldest charitable organisations of India. Jamsetji Tata, a founder and the creator of the Tata Group, formed it by 1892. The organisation, over the past century, has focused on “improving the quality of life of the tribal, underserved, underprivileged, backward and minority sections, and laying special emphasis on women and children.”
Tata Trusts established India’s first cancer care hospital, and have seeded and supported several leading institutions, including Tata Centre for Technology and Design at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Tata Memorial Centre, and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), among others.
