When Vasco da Gama reached India, he established an open port policy which brought immense prosperity. There was a stranglehold union of Europe and India established.

Even though the Portuguese and Dutch companies were most prominent and had their territorial rights in India, there were many other trading companies from England, France, Germany, and Denmark that were there. Thus the commercial contacts between Europe and Indian countries became extensive.

They entered India as traders at the outset but by the passage of time indulged in the politics of India and finally established their colonies.

The commercial rivalry among the European powers led to political rivalry. Ultimately, the British Vasco da Gama succeeded in establishing their rule India.
