The film Axone from Netflix to the bylanes of Delhi

The film Axone which released on Netflix recently to mixed reviews, revolves around two flatmates from Manipur and Nepal, living in Delhi, who wish to surprise their third flatmate, from Arunachal Pradesh, by making her favourite dish. The film was made by Nicholas Kharkongor.

Key-Points:

The first two characters, played by Lin Laishram and Sayani Gupta, spend the day trying to find a spot to cook meat with axone, a fermented soy paste from Nagaland made with either fresh or dried beans.

Axone is also spelled akhuni is a fermented soya bean of Nagaland, known for its distinctive flavour and smell.

Axone is used to make pickles and chutneys, or curries of pork, fish, chicken, beef etc. as much an ingredient as it is a condiment.

 Axone is prepared and eaten across Nagaland but is particularly popular among the Sumi (also Sema) tribe.

There are two ways of making axone: either dry or like a paste.
