Two cars A and B are 324 away from each other and coming towards each other. The speed of car A is 5 m/s more than that of car B. If they crossed each other in 12 seconds, then find in what time car B will cross a 198 m long tunnel.

a)            8 seconds

b)            12 seconds

c)            14 seconds

d)            18 seconds

e)            16 seconds

Sol:

Let the speed of car B = ‘x’ m/s

So, speed of car A = (x + 5) m/s

From the question:

(x + 5) + x = 324/12

x = 11

Speed of car B = 11 m/s

So, the time taken by car B to cross a 198 m

long tunnel = 198/11 = 18 seconds
