‘Dolphins return to the Ganga in U.P.’
✓Dolphins have started coming back to the Ganga with improvement in the quality of the river water owing to Namami Gange programme.
✓Present dolphin population in Ganga ~ 600.
● Namami Gange programme:
✓The flow of > 460 MLD (million litres a day) of sewage into the Ganga has been stopped.
✓Additional treatment capacity of about 33 MLD will also be created till December in:
✓Jhansi, Kanpur, Unnao, Shuklaganj, Sultanpur Budhana, Jaunpur and Baghpat.
● Dolphin breeding areas:
✓Brijghat, Narora, Kanpur, Mirzapur and Varanasi
