Uttarakhand Government launches virtual classroom project

Uttarakhand Government launches virtual classroom project connecting 500 secondary schools in the state facing a shortage of teachers will benefit from the new technology. The project was launched under the Information and Communication Technology scheme of Samagra Sikshar Abhiyan in Uttarakhand. Virtual classes are attended through video conferences where students can meet the teacher on a real-time basis and ask questions.

An estimated 1.90 lakh students from classes 6-12 of 500 government-run secondary schools in the state will benefit from the project. Initially, 150 schools have been connected with the project, which works on two-way seamless interactivity, and the remaining 350 will be linked with it over the next 15 days. The virtual classrooms use the Satellite Interactive Technology (SIT) and Receive only Terminal (ROT) technologies for two-way seamless interactivity. Using these technologies will be used for teaching different subjects by experts and teachers from the four central studios constructed in Dehradun.
