| Solution | Soil erosion occurs in different regions of West Bengal due to various factors. In the mountainous and forested areas, soil erosion is intensified by landslides, deforestation, shifting cultivation, and excessive siltation in rivers. The delta plains experience soil erosion primarily caused by annual floods, waterlogging, prolonged wet and dry spells of rainfall, deforestation, and inappropriate cultivation practices. In the Western Plateau region, soil erosion is influenced by poor water retention capacity, extended dry periods leading to droughts, deforestation, overgrazing, leaching, and seasonal floods. Coastal regions face soil erosion due to waterlogging, high salinity, poor water retention capacity, tidal waves, coastal run-off, and excessive siltation of rivers. |
