Being a democratic country India need to Strengthen Democracy. There are several incidents happening behind us which gradually trying to threating Indian Democracy system. So that India has to take step to Strengthen India’s Democracy. Here we are going to discuss about some ways which can be literally helpful to boast Indian democratic power. Before that, we have to know what is Democracy? What is significance of democracy in a Country? Let’s see.
When we tell about a Democracy, It is supposed to be a political system that ensures that the will of the majority of people or more accurately a majority of voting age adults prevails. But the actual experience of democracies all over the world, as also in India, has brought home the fact that this theoretical premise is scarcely ever borne out by praxis. Gradually increasing attacks on the press and the erosion of judicial autonomy are threatening India’s global image as an Indian’s Democracy.
Electoral autocracies, according to V-Dem, are now present in 87 states that are home to 68% of the global population. Liberal democracies, the group says, are diminishing, and are home to only 14% of the people. Concerns about the undermining of these institutional checks-and-balances led both institutions to reduce India’s score on their index. Weakening democracy in India can negatively impact India’s ambitions to become a full-fledged member of the Quad or the D-10. It will also undermine India’s claim to become a Permanent Member of the UN Security Council.
For this time being India pretty much needs to increase the democratic power. Democratic Values and Principles are core to India’s identity. We need to safeguard India’s Democracy by strengthening its pillars- the Legislature, Executive, Judiciary, and the Media. Here are some steps mentions below which can definitely help us to Strengthen India’s Democracy
1st the Government should hear criticism rather than rejecting it outrightly. Suggestions on eroding democratic values need a thoughtful, and respectful response.
2nd the press and the judiciary which are considered the pillars of India’s Democracy, require to be independent of any executive interference.
3rd strong democracy requires strong opposition. Without an alternative choice, the very objective of election to provide a check on arbitrary power gets defeated.
