Noted historian Ranajit Guha has passed away. He died at the age of 100 in his Austrian home. Guha's family moved to Kolkata after he was born on May 23, 1923 in Barisal, Bangladesh.

He had attended a city school and earned a post-graduate degree in history from Calcutta University. Guha retired from the Australian National University in 1988 after being previously associated with other renowned institutions. One of his well-known books is ‘Elementary Aspects of Peasant Insurgency in Colonial India’.
