Climate Smart Cities Assessment Framework

The Climate Smart Cities Assessment Framework (CSCAF) 2.0 was released to help cities assess, prioritize and plan for climate change adaptation across sectors like transport, water, urban planning etc., in order to become more sustainable in the long run. This assessment framework is a move towards urban sustainability and climate justice through effective adaptation planning at the city level.

About CSCAF 2.0:

Cities are one of the most dynamic sectors in human society. As populations grow and urban centers expand, climate change is going to become an increasingly important factor in decision-making by local governments, who clearly have a key role to play in tackling this global challenge. City Solutions Climate Action Framework 2.0 was developed by C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group to provide a clear roadmap for cities towards combating Climate Change while planning and implementing their actions, including investments.

The objective of the CSCAF 2.0 is to provide a clear roadmap for cities towards combating Climate Change while planning and implementing their actions, including investments.

The Climate Centre for Cities under National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is supporting MoHUA in implementation of CSCAF.

It has 28 indicators across five categories namely;

  • Energy and Green Buildings,
  • Urban Planning, Green Cover & Biodiversity,
  • Mobility and Air Quality,
  • Water Management and
  • Waste Management.

Streets for People Challenge

Streets for People is a global campaign that encourages cities to create walkable streets. Streets are the heartbeat of our city, and when they are vibrant, people feel connected to them. Streets can make us happier, healthier and more productive.

It aims to inspire cities to create walking-friendly and vibrant streets. All cities with a population of over 5 lakh, and capital cities, can apply.

Cities around the world, such as Bogota, Berlin, and Milan have responded by transforming streets for walking and cycling, to ensure safe mobility during Covid-19.
