Why it is imperative for a society to promote social justice?

Social justice is one of the most significant issues of our time. It forms a bigger part of every social, political and economic system. It is an important component for every government aiming at improving human dignity and a new life for the deprived section of society without interfering with their basic rights of existence and freedom.

What is social justice?

Social justice is considered to be a means of protecting individuals and groups from social inequality, exclusion, and power imbalances. Social inequality refers to access to services by individuals that are different from others. In order to achieve an ideal society where all individuals will have the same access to services in terms of education, health, employment, and wealth, promoting social justice is extremely important.

Importance of Social Justice in a society: 

Social justice plays a vital role in the welfare of a society. Social justice means equality of rights and opportunities for all citizens without discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, etc, so as to guarantee basic human rights and dignity of man. To have social justice and responsibility leads to satisfaction and pleasure of life and peaceful coexistence of people working shoulder to shoulder towards a common goal. The reduction in crime rate will also be the beneficial outcome of having social justice in a State. It enables masses to perform their service activities with a sense of respect and duty.

Equality: In the current state of the world, we are often confronted with countless stories that portray racial, ethnic, and economic discrimination. The main problem is that once we open our mouths to speak out against it, we are accused of promoting “social injustice," which is "a category of injustices in which an individual or group protests against another's treatment." When we care about social justice, it means that we care for everyone’s well-being. This does not mean though that you provide the same services and help for everyone because that would be unjust.

Diversity: Contributing to social justice, we respect and accept each person as a unique individual. Our present diversity is not an accident it has been evolved and cultivated through hard work. Enhancing our lifestyle through picking a path that empowers each of us. Social justice can help to reinforce this process by equalizing the opportunities for everyone.

Economic upliftment: Social justice efforts could promote universal economic rights, which may include a living wage. Such actions could be seen as a form of restitution or reparation for past economic practices that have harmed groups. Social justice advocates may pursue a variety of changes in social institutions, ranging from changes within the family to more broad-based transformations of economic systems.

Democratic system: In a democratic system, the social changes are not possible, if they are not supported by social development. The main aim of social development is to establish compatibility between the society and its economic development. It also prevents the conflict between individual rights and community interests. Social justice is also an important component of social development.

Dignity: Dignity is a fundamental human right and it is protected by law through the constitution. Securing human dignity should be the aim of all the state policies and laws. It is important to provide justice to all and enable their rights as enshrined in our constitution to ensure life to be meaningful and liveable with human dignity.

Mitigate Sufferings: Implementation of the Social Justice in a society has its paramount importance. It also helps in promoting equality among Individuals and social groups that contribute to the betterment of an individual. All elements, which work in one way or another towards deprivation, exploitation and oppression of Individuals should be mitigated by bringing Social Justice in all spheres of life.

Human Resources: Human resources are usually taken as the incentives and provide the condition of conducting business such as health, education facilities. It will help in the conservation of human resources by the provision of health and education facilities.

Freedom to form political, economic or religious institutions: Social justice is the primary idea for most of the politicians in honoring equal rights to each citizen. The importance of social justice lies in equal opportunity along with providing everyone the same level of freedom to form political, economic, or religious institutions.

Improving status of women: Social Justice can improve the status of women by improving the perception of women in the society. It will also give opportunities for employment and financial independence for them. This will ensure the safety and security of girls and women by deterring crimes against them.

Legal Justice: Judicial or legal justice is justice in the proceedings of the courts. It is usually contrasted with social justice, where attention is focused on fairness in the distribution of wealth, life chances, and privileges within society at large.
