In India, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), an autonomous government agency has launched a special programme for school children called ‘Young Scientist Programme’ (YSP) or ‘Yuva Vigyani Karyakram’ (YUVIKA) which is primarily aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to the younger ones. ISRO has launched this program of outreach to students for fostering the talent of young minds across the country. There are a number of pre-determined themes in which the students should work during the YSP period. These themes are as follows: Space Technology; Science & Technology; Space Applications; Space Science and Astronomy; Student Science Projects.
Scientific temper: ISRO’s Young Scientist Programme (YSP) is the most important initiative to engage the young people of our country. The programme provides an opportunity to showcase the innovative and creative skills among the students of schools and colleges across India.
Manpower: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is currently undergoing a major transformation to meet the increased demand for satellite launch services. Thus, there is an urgent need to create an opportunity for optimal manpower in selected fields to meet the projected needs of the organization and society at large. The ISRO Young Scientist Programme (YSP) was initiated with this objective in mind, as an effort to bring together extraordinary young minds from colleges in India.
Career in space: ISRO’s YSP is a unique programme that allows Indian youngsters to participate and develop solutions in their areas of interest. Needless to say, the hands-on experience that they will be getting in this programme will be priceless, which later can help them move on to lucrative careers.
Future scientists: ISRO’s Young Scientist Programme (YSP) is one of the most popular platform for a budding student to show his talent and get recognition. YSP 2020 is initiated by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The aim is to develop future scientists especially in the space sector and to make them aware about this sector.
Experience sharing: ISRO’s Young Scientist Programme (YSP) is a unique opportunity for school students to learn space science through fun, hands-on experiments. YSP brings together students from ISRO and other national space agencies, space scientists, technologists, academia, and educationists to share knowledge about space exploration and inspire our future generation of scientists in India.
Interest in space activities: The significance of ISRO’s young scientist programme 2020 is a step to proffer the students an opportunity for their careers in the field of space research. The programme gives a crystal clear idea to the students about the opportunities that are available for them in the field of space activities. The programme is designed in a way that it resonates with their inquisitiveness.
Awareness: The ISRO Young Scientist Programme is a national-level science exposition. The program is conducted to create awareness amongst young scientists, students, and teachers about the space activities in the country.
Rural involvement: The ISRO now invited applications from the rural students who are not only interested in science and engineering, but also are hobbyists on space activities. It is expected that these students will be able to do tremendous work for the Indian Space Program.
Leadership skills: ISRO’s Young scientist program is aimed at young scientists and technologists to develop their leadership skills and a fuller understanding of global, regional, and industry agendas over the four years of the training period. This will equip them for better performance in their careers thereafter.
Platform for engagement: YSP is a platform for an exchange of scientific ideas and skills between young people, trainers, healthcare professionals, etc. The benefits of YSP include science-based health care, employment, transcontinental intellectual exchange, career development skills.
