Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved setting up of Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) worth Rs. 15000 crore in pursuance of recently announced Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan stimulus package for ensuring growth in several sectors.

The Aim of the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund is to facilitate incentivization of investments for dairy processing and value addition infrastructure, meat processing and value addition infrastructure and Animal Feed Plant.

The eligible entities under AHIDF are Farmer Producer Organization(FPO), Private companies, Individual entrepreneurs, Section 8 companies and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises.

Objectives of Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund

• To help increasing of milk and meat processing capacity and product diversification thereby providing greater access for unorganized rural milk and meat producers to organized milk and meat market.
• To make available increased price realization for the producer.
• To make available quality milk and meat products for the domestic consumer.
• To fulfill the objective of protein enriched quality food requirement of the growing population of the country and prevent malnutrition in one of the highest malnourished children population in the world.
• Develop enterpreneurship and generate employment.
• To promote exports and increase the export contribution in the milk and meat sector.
• To make available quality concentrated animals feed to the cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat, pig and poultry to provide balanced ration at affordable prices.

Benefits of the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund

By making efficient animal husbandry infrastructure investments, there would be more meat, milk, and milk products available for distribution in the country. The investment would boost employment opportunities in the rural areas, reduce animal waste in rural areas, facilitate rural infrastructure development, enable farmers to earn greater profit and farmers would have a stronger foothold in the livestock sector.
